The Library at the Scarlet, where the Scarlet Book Club now meets.
Local bibliophiles got together for the Scarlet's first Book Club meeting on Thursday, 27th September 2012.
We decided to meet once a month, with our next meeting to be on Thursday, 25th October at 2pm. We plan discuss the chosen book until 3.30pm, then enjoy optional tea and cake and more general chat.
The group has drawn up a provisional list of six books to read, and have agreed that as more members join this list can be amended to include their choices as well.
The current reading list is as follows:
October:The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
Allan Karlson is about to be subjected to his 100th birthday party - arranged against his wishes by the old people's home where he lives. Allan decides to go AWOL out his bedroom window rather than suffer said birthday party and this life-affirming book follows his ensuing adventures and reminds the reader that you are never too old to have fun.
November: The Seige by Helen Dunmore
December / January: King Dido by Alexander Barron
February: The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver
March: Moby Dick by Herman Melville
April: Pulphead: Notes from the other side of America by John Jeremiah Sullivan
Please do join us for our next meeting. Just RSVP to bookclub@scarlethotel.co.uk.
