“Painting outside is a very different experience to working in a studio and often a challenge, it is one, however, which I feel is a more intimate way of working, offering a deeper engagement with the subject as well as the occasional unbidden painting opportunity such as horses being exercised on the beach I am painting."
For the last 10 years, Neil has been painting full time, working mainly in land and seascapes along with some portraits and still life.
"My work in Cornwall has included the landscape of Cape Cornwall but it is to the Roseland Peninsula that I return to most often, particularly the coast and surrounding countryside near Portscatho. The paintings are carried out in the open air directly from the subject, each one painted in a time period of up four hours, representing morning, afternoon or evening light.”
