Brief descriptions of our classes are below.

Complimentary meditation class

Every day at 3.00pm, a complimentary half hour meditaition class for all hotel residents.  We will be taking guests through a variety of introductory styles with the aim of slowing down the mind.  No experience ncessary, requires no painful sitting positions, no saffron robes, just you and an open mind.

Pilates & Quantam yoga

In this fusion class, teacher Amy draws on the principles of Pilates to create a dynamic flowing session with an emphasis on muscle balance, strength, flexibility and precision of movement. Quantum Yoga encourages a mindful approach that uses the teachings of Ayurveda and Hatha yoga asanas to help channel your energy where it's needed.

Hatha yoga

Gemma draws on her diverse experience of yoga over the past 10 years to tailor each class to the individual. She takes into account where you are and what you are hoping to gain from delving a little deeper into your yoga practice.

Gemma trained as a yoga teacher in India and continues to learn and be inspired by yoga and its wonderful teachers. This class combines movement and breath with sequencing, posture practice and deep relaxation.

Yoga bodywork

Yoga bodywork is an intuitive, holistic massage process that integrates Andrew's experience as a yoga teacher, massage therapist and bodyworker.

A yoga bodywork session takes between 1 and 11⁄2 hours. This includes consultation and assessment, massage or hands on work as appropriate and a discussion of the ways in which you can continue the process beyond the session. All sessions are fully confidential. Comfortable clothing is necessary as this is not an oil massage. The process can be used to address specific health issues, but will always take a holistic and integrative view of your body, mind and life circumstances.

Homeopathy

Our homeopath, Brenda Pretty (BPharm LCCH RSHom), is a highly experienced registered homeopath offering an effective, caring, confidential service. Patients benefit from both her practical, 'no fuss' homeopathy and also from her many years of experience as a pharmacist.

Brenda says: "We are good at self healing. We do it all the time often without realising, which is why we are sometimes surprised when we fall ill.

"When our natural healing mechanisms are disrupted through stress, grief, anger, anxiety, fear or overwork, we may find ourselves suffering with decreased vitality, a lowered sense of wellbeing and illnesses of one type or another. It's just these situations where homeopathy can be helpful. As a homeopath. I look at you as a whole person, not just as a list of symptoms.  Recognising the links between the mind, emotions and the body, I target homeopathic medicines to help stimulate and encourage your body's own healing system.

"My aim is to help you get back your balance, improve your sense of wellness, enjoy life as much as you can and find that missing 'zing'."

In the introductory session, Brenda guides you thorough what she calls a homeopathic MOT, exploring with you how homeopathy could help to improve your health and well being. Homeopathic medicines are included along with a personalised plan to enable you to move forward and enjoy the benefits of using homeopathy.

Laughter yoga

The connection between mind and body is well documented. Change your physiology and you change your psychology - and a bout of hearty laughter is an incredible way to do this in a heartbeat.

Steve Patterson from The Cornwall Laughter Club will introduce you to the many benefits of a good chortle with some Laughter Yoga - a unique experience where you laugh for no reason.  There are no jokes, no comedy and you don't even need a sense of humour.

He says: "During this session, we will combine movement, eye contact and childlike playfulness with laughter exercises, yogic breathing and relaxation to enthuse, awaken and delight the mind and body.

"Everyone loves to laugh.  It makes us feel better.  It's a language everyone knows, but nobody had to be taught.  What better way to brighten up your life than with a good laugh?"

Singing lessons

Jazz singer Ella Basile is the Scarlet's singing teacher providing guests with vocal coaching in popular styles from dance music to folk and rock.

Ella says: "I teach students how to warm up their vocal chords like a pro, introduce them to diaphragm breathing exercises and give hints and tips to having happy healthy vocals."

Ella can help you to improve your singing technique to sound better either in the shower, or performing professionally. One-to-one lessons really focus on the individual's needs and abilities.

Ella works with many students to build their confidence whilst singing, as this can be the main block that stops us singing at our best. Whether you are a beginner or at a more advanced level, Ella has something to suit every need.

Beach Nordic walking

Nordic Walking is a fitness technique that uses carbon poles to enhance ordinary walking. It tones the upper body, burns 46% more calories than normal walking and is low impact, reducing any pressure on your joints.

Instructor Kate says: "Whatever your age, fitness level or ability, Nordic walking is effective and enjoyable for everyone, including pregnant women and those recovering from injury."

She invites you to join her for a session to get a feel for this graceful, sociable and highly effective fitness activity.

Time with Scarlet guru Amanda Phillips

Teacher Amanda Phillips is available to explore with guests ways in which they can increase their energy and work towards embracing all that they are.

Spend time with Amanda engaging in one of the following:

Silent walking meditation

Surrender to the pleasure of now by meeting, connecting and moving in a silent walking meditation. Walk slowly in nature, connect with our environment in silence, appreciate and delight in the earth, the flowers, the rocks, the ocean, the elements. Allow your mind to become still and feel a sense of deep peace, pleasure and connection with ‘all that is'. Having arrived at a place of beauty, break silence and share feelings, reflect if you wish, or simply enjoy and be.

An optional picnic lunch is available, and we will return ‘home' at normal

walking pace chatting, or simply enjoying peace.

Meditation and breathwork

During this class, you can connect to the 'breath of life' with conscious awareness. Working with breathing patterns and by making subtle adjustments, you can connect with universal energy / prana / positive life force. Surrender to the now and be in the beauty and healing energy of silent meditation.

Spiritual development

Amanda will look at spiritual purification practice through the elements - air, fire, water and earth. She encourages students to connect with their higher self and work with pure positive energy, opening themselves to support, love and blessings around us.

Transformational dance and breath

This class creates a safe space to unravel, let go and release anything you may be hanging onto that is no longer serves your or helps you achieve your highest potential.

Working with transformational breath and movement can help to release self-limiting behaviour patterns and initiate positive, life-affirming change.  No dance experience is necessary to take part, just a willingness to become all that you are.

'Obby 'Oss Day
The 1st of May is 'Obby 'Oss Day in Padstow celebrating the Celtic festival of Beltane. This spring festival is dedicated to the return of the Celtic sun god Bel, who makes the crops grow and lengthens the hours of daylight. The 'Obby 'Oss looks like a big black caped animal - thought to represent a stallion - with a strange mask and snapping jaws. Its strange, pagan dance and the rhythm of the drumbeat are quite mystical and infectious. A ‘teaser' leads the ‘Obby ‘Oss, dancing around the ‘Oss' and prodding him with a special padded stick.

Helston Flora Day
The 8th of May is Flora Day in Helston celebrating the Christian feast day of St Michael. On this day, children from the local schools dance the Furry Dance through the streets of Helston. The dwellings and shops of the town are festooned with bluebells, campion and whatever green foliage is available. Specific dances (not including the children's dance) go in and out of various private buildings and grounds. On the same day the Hal an Tow, an enactment of St George slaying the dragon and celebration of the coming of spring, is performed in the streets of the town. Both events indicate a pre-Christian celebration of the passing of winter.
