We were thrilled to recently host professional surfer Laura Crane at Scarlet for a restorative break, while she was back home in the UK. Laura, the first British woman to surf the 60ft waves of Nazare in Portugal, has been making waves in the surf industry. We sat down to discuss her favorite Scarlet moments, the importance of rest and recovery for a professional athlete, and her favorite places in Cornwall.
It was wonderful to have you stay with us recently at the Scarlet. As a professional surfer, how crucial is rest and recovery for your physical and mental well-being?
'For me, the recovery is just as important as the training as without proper rest and recovery you can't expect your mind and body to preform at its optimum.'
Can you share your top tips for prioritising your well-being?
'A solid morning routine, yoga breathwork or meditation before 10am and above all blue therapy. Whether that's a surf, cold dip or a swim, its a sure way to keep me on top of my game.'
We noticed that you explored the Coastal Path Trail during your visit. Which route did you take and would you recommend to our guests?
'Yes it was a stunning day so me and my partner headed out on a coastal trail run from the hotel to Watergate Bay and back. I would 100000% recommend, even though there are a few steep parts the views make it all worthwhile.'
What are your three favourite places in Cornwall?
'Scarlet Hotel, St Ives and Watergate Bay.'
Lastly, what did you enjoy most about your stay at Scarlet?
'This is tough as I loved it all, but I think it has to be the ocean front location, natural dipping pool, incredible food in the restaurant and the yin yoga class I did on our last morning!'
