There are some light building works on a neighbouring property. Should you have any questions please contact the team at [email protected] or call us on the number below.

Things to note before your stay

Local building works

Due to local building works in close proximity to the hotel, there may be some noise or disruption during your stay.

Although these works are not connected with Scarlet, the proximity may have an effect at certain times when outside the property; we are working closely with builders to ask that noisy works are not carried out until after 9am.

The building site shares the north boundary of the Scarlet gardens, close to our natural reed pool, and there will be times when builders will require to work with tall or large machinery; however, the property, once finished, will not exceed the height of the existing building.

The building works are scheduled to be carried out until end of September 2025.

We will do our best to ensure your stay is as restful as possible; but please get in touch if you wish to discuss these works further via [email protected].

Adults-only

Scarlet is an adults-only hotel, designed for those over 18. This extends to all spaces, including our spa restaurant and lounges. We welcome solo travellers, couples, friends, siblings and families. Just up the hill, our Scandinavian-inspired outpost Bedruthan welcomes people of all ages.

Arriving at our eco hotel

Scarlet is found in Mawgan Porth, a small Cornish village found on the quiet coastal stretch between Newquay and Padstow. Our cliffside location can be easily reached by foot, car, train or plane.

Check-in from 4pm; Check-out by 11am

Please feel free to arrive at the Scarlet any time on your arrival day to begin exploring our coastal hideaway; however, your room is not guaranteed to be ready until 4pm. We ask that you leave any luggage in your car until then. If you don’t have a car, we can store bags until check-in or after you’ve checked out.

We also ask that all guests use our new online check-in to minimise contact – then all you’ll need to do is collect your room keys and start exploring Scarlet.

Scarlet Restaurant & Bar

Our sea-view restaurant is very popular and we recommend booking a table for breakfast and dinner in advance. We can cater for most dietary requests, so please speak to our team before setting off.

Scarlet Spa

Our spa doesn’t do generic: our treatment menu is a wide collection of interesting treatments, offering up new and thoughtful approaches to wellbeing. Our philosophy is inspired by Ayurveda, an Indian holistic health system that helps us reach a more complete self-understanding.

Time in our clifftop spa, swimming pools and a wellness class programme is available to all guests during your stay, as well as access to our new treatment menu exclusive to hotel guests. Scarlet spa is very popular so we recommend booking experiences, wellness classes and treatments online as soon as you can, to avoid disappointment.

how to book Scarlet spa

We have a new spa booking system where all hotel guest-only experiences and treatments can be booked online ahead of arrival.

Simply log in using your hotel booking confirmation number (found on your reservation confirmation documents). Just add the letters TSH in front of your number and ensure you are using the lead booker's surname to log in.

If you have any difficulty using the online system or would like to discuss a treatment, please contact our team on 01637 861800.

Our eco sanctuary

Scarlet is somewhere in love with nature. And out of a deep awe for our clifftop place, we try and live here in a balanced relationship with the natural coastal ecosystem. It’s a simple way of living that’s about slowing down, using less and appreciating more.

Open plan living

Scarlet’s rooms have been carefully designed to make you feel closely connected to the natural coastal environment.

Spaces are designed to maximise our Atlantic view, including our bathrooms. Instead of dividing walls, the sinks and bathtubs are open to the room.

Some rooms feature private showering areas, while others are more open.

The toilet is divided from the room by an opaque glass door. Our reservation team can always take requests or talk you through the slight differences between rooms here.

Phone signal

There are quirks to living out on the Cornish coastline. Here, phone reception can often come and go, though no one seems to mind too much.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and all Scarlet guests have access to a wide-range of newspapers and magazines while staying at the Scarlet. Simply download the exclusive app before you arrive; once connected to our Wi-Fi, you can enjoy unlimited reading.

Privacy

Scarlet is located in the small Cornish village of Mawgan Porth. We are found on a sleepy residential road, sharing our clifftop view with a few other houses.

Here, the views are unobstructed and the loudest thing around is normally the gentle murmur of the sea. Mawgan Porth beach is public, though is often quieter than many other beaches along this coastal stretch.

Bring your dog

Our natural retreat is open to both humans and dogs. And with long stretches of Cornish sand and miles of Atlantic cliff paths, Scarlet can be what both dogs and their owners seek.

If planning to stay with a dog, please contact our reservations team directly. Up to two dogs can share your Scarlet stay with you, however not all rooms can cater for this. Please email us at [email protected] or call us on 01637 861800.

And if you’re allergic to dogs, we also have rooms that remain dog-free. Please discuss this with our reservations team before your arrival.
